COVID UPDATE - July 2021

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As most of you have read, Haiti is in the center of a major surge of Covid-19.  In the beginning of the pandemic, Haiti did a very good job of keeping the infection rate surprisingly low when they closed down the country for approximately 4 months; however, when the country opened back up, Covid is now surging with new and scarier variants.  In the Cap Haitien area where New Hope Hospital is located, Dr. Eugene is experiencing trying to fight this pandemic without the tools necessary to protect people.

In the best of times, northern rural Haiti does not have access to clean water and the basic sanitation supplies for good health practices, you can only imagine what that situation is like during a pandemic such as Covid-19.  We would like to think the vaccine is going to get to Haiti soon but that does not seem to be the case.  When the vaccine does arrive, Cap Haitien will probably not be at the top of the list to receive it.  Haiti was expecting 130,000 doses of Astra-Zeneca to arrive on June 14; we are reading it did not happen and this number of doses will hardly make an impact on a country of 11.5 million.  Sadly, the vaccine will not be a solution to this situation in the near future.

After much conversation with Dr. Eugene and others, we believe our best impact right now is to provide funding so New Hope can purchase PPE and necessary supplies to fight this horrific virus.

Partners 4 New Hope, Inc. is providing a way to donate to this cause on our website and all of your designated gifts will go directly to New Hope Hospital for Covid relief.

Thank you for joining us in this vital project to protect our brothers and sisters in Haiti; truly some of the most deserving and least among us.
